Book Review
What do you get when you cross classic fairy tale characters with toss rocket science? The Three Little Pigs and the Rocket Project. A fabulous, fractured fairy tale written by Lynne Marie and Illustrated by Wendy Fedan!
The Three Little Pigs and the other students at Fairy Tale Elementary School are buzzing with excitement when they learn it’s time to build toss rockets. Better yet? They get to choose the materials.
Brick, sticks, or hay anyone?
Hudson builds his rocket out of bricks… after all, it worked for him before.
Milo chooses sticks.
But why, oh why, does Eloise choose hay?
Doesn’t she remember how a certain wolf huffed and puffed and blew her hay house down?
That’s right, classmate Bibi Wolfe has her eye on the prize. She’s determined to win the toss rocket competition, even if it means resorting to dastardly deeds, and blowing the other rockets out of the sky to claim victory.
All huffing and puffing aside, children will delight in this topsy-turvey tale when they discover hay wasn’t the best choice for a house, but it just might be the ticket for a toss rocket.
Lynne Marie ingeniously weaves STEAM components into The Three Little Pigs and the Rocket Project while Wendy’s colorful, eye-catching artwork brings this fractured tale to life.
As an elementary school librarian, fairy tales reimagined are a favorite part of my curriculum and this book will add dimension to future lessons.
STEAM has quickly become an expected and much-loved part of my job. Since the time and knowledge to write innovative lesson plans is sometimes lacking, I appreciate that the Three Little Pigs and the Rocket Project includes directions for students to make their own rockets. In Addition, it highlights the scientific method for their designs, therefore making the educational connections limitless.
The Three Little Pigs and the Rocket Project is a STEAM filled picture book that shows an encouraging theme while celebrating each person’s contribution. It not only entertains but teaches us that talents vary and even failures can morph into success.
Like its predecessor, The Three Little Pigs and the Rocket Project will undoubtedly endure as it rockets to success!
