The Adventures of Jake and the Giant Water Tower
Winner of the Late Bloomer Author Category
Author: Ron Sobel
Illustrator: Ginny Krueger
Independently published
Jake has an unusual love for water towers. Big ones, little ones, fancy ones, plain ones, even ones that have painted flowers on them … he loves them all! “Water tower” was even his first set of words. You can be sure that whenever his grandparents took him for a car ride, he was on the lookout for them!
During one of these excursions, Jake, as usual, was busy spotting water towers, when he saw the biggest and brightest one of them all. But something else caught his eagle eyes. High up on the tower ladder was a stranded kitten, meowing for its mother. Jake sprang to action by letting his grandparents know. Grandma pulls the car safely to the side of the road while grandpa calls … who else? The fire department! Jake is recognized for his good deed, and the fire department chief declares him a hero, giving him his very own badge.
With its bright pictures and simple text, we just bet children will love this fun tale and become fans of water towers, too. For best results, read it right before a long road trip.
