One of the unique objectives of the Northern Lights Book Awards is to not only recognize notable up and coming children titles, but to honor extraordinary books that have stood the test of time. We are proud to announce Angelina Ballerina as the winner of the Time-Honored Book Award. First published in 1983, Angelina Jeanette Mouseling has arabesqued her way into the preschool landscape and beyond.

Angelina is a lively mouse who wants nothing more than to dance and spend her days leaping and twirling about. Attesting to her obsession, Angelina’s room is adorned with posters featuring famous mouse ballerinas. However, much to Mrs. Mouseling’s exasperation, Angelina’s fascination is interfering with school, chores, and even with the pansies belonging to their neighbor, Mrs. Hodgepodge.

One of the things which makes this book so endearing is Angelina’s less-than-perfect parents who truly love their daughter. Angelina does not take her parents gift of dance lessons lightly but works hard. Along the way she learns to balance her schoolwork and chores.

At its core, Angelina Ballerina is a poignant testimony to love, acceptance, and achieving your dreams.
Children will delight in picking out details from the intricate drawings, such as a knight mouse and fiery dragon on the family’s fireplace, along with window shopping in a 1920s London boutique for dancers. A charming book for those with larger-than-life dreams and a perfect gift for those who dance their way through life.
